Four-Car Pileup on I-95 Near Brickell Exit Sends Three to Jackson Memorial

Florida Highway Patrol responded shortly after 5:40 p.m. to a four-vehicle chain-reaction collision on southbound I-95 approaching the SW 8th Street exit in Brickell. Three occupants were transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital with what officials described as non-life-threatening injuries.
Witnesses told troopers that the lead vehicle, a sedan, braked hard for stopped rush-hour traffic and was struck from behind by a pickup truck whose driver was reportedly looking at a mobile device. Two additional vehicles were then pushed into the wreckage.
Under Florida's no-fault system (Statute 627.736), each driver injured in the crash should expect their own PIP carrier to cover up to $10,000 in medical bills and 60% of lost wages — but only if treatment is sought within 14 days of the accident. Victims with injuries that meet the statutory 'serious injury' threshold may also pursue a third-party claim against the at-fault driver.
Miami's I-95 corridor remains one of the highest-crash highways in the United States, with FDOT data consistently ranking the Brickell-to-Golden Glades stretch among the most dangerous urban segments in Florida.
